Civil Society and the Internet; Twenty Years of Networking and Future Prospects' Symposiums

OUTLINE-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Using the key words "NPO", "Network" and "the Internet", these symposia will concentrate upon the way to connect people who have the same objectives, such as NPOs and Volunteers, based upon the concept that civil society is built upon the trust in place between individuals, between individuals and organizations, and between organizations.

During the 1980s, the subject of Networking was discussed throughout society, before and during the time when access to the Internet became more widespread. This dramatically altered the means by which people corresponded with one another and gained access to information. At these symposia we will consider how to create a future society focused upon its individual citizens, and the role played by the effective use of the Internet, while evaluating and discussing its usage during the last twenty years,

Besides the aforementioned subject, at each symposium and site, we will introduce a special topic of discussion. Each individual symposium will consider the regional ideas and implications of the subject, raising the value of daily actions and experience and integrating them into an overall scheme.

Speakers present will include Ms. Lisa Kimball (of the online community The Meta Network, and founder of 'Group Jazz') and Rich Cowan (Founder and President of the organization to help non-profit and activist groups to use computers and the internet more effectively, 'Organizers' Collaborative').
